Plans change. In Sitedrive you move work by dragging it on the timeline, typing dates in the Gantt table, or editing the work package panel. Changes appear straight away for everyone looking at the schedule, and you can undo them.

## Before you start

- To move or edit work you need the **Schedule**, **Site** or **Account admin** right, or **Refine**/**Refine (ltd)** for work packages you own.
- Editing is blocked when:
    - the schedule is archived or locked,
    - the toolbar edit lock is closed ("Editing locked (to prevent accidental edits)"),
    - the site is still in the planning phase (for status changes),
    - you are looking at an older version in version history. Hover over a greyed-out field to see the reason.

## Move work by dragging

**In Gantt**

1. Point at a bar on the timeline.
2. Drag it left or right. Work snaps to working time and skips holidays.
3. Release to save.

If you drag a sum work package or a master, everything under it moves by the same amount, in every area.

**In Takt**

1. Click a work package to select it. To select more, hold Ctrl/Cmd and click, or hold Shift and click to select a range.
2. Drag one of the selected work packages left or right. All selected work moves together, each in its own area row.

To grow a selection along a sequence, right-click and select **Expand selection**, then **To subsequent packages** or **To previous packages**.

To move work into different areas, use [Define areas](https://support.sitedrive.com/en/kb/define-areas) or copy and paste. Dragging moves work in time only.

_Drag a work package to move it, and select Undo to put it back._

## Change duration by resizing

1. Point at the start or end edge of a bar until the cursor changes.
2. Drag the edge.

Resizing a sum work package or a master stretches or shrinks everything under it in proportion. This can change the durations of individual work packages, so check the result.

## Move with the keyboard

1. Select a work package.
2. Hold Alt (Mac: Option) and press ← or →. Each press moves the work one time slot.
3. Release Alt/Option to save.

Press Esc during a drag to cancel it.

In Gantt you can also draw a row's dates: hold Ctrl/Cmd+Alt and drag along the row on the timeline.

## Edit values in the Gantt table

1. In Gantt, select **Columns** in the toolbar and tick the columns you need, such as **End date** or **Duration (days)**.
2. Click a cell and type the new value.
3. Press Enter.

Useful columns for timing are **Start date**, **End date**, **Duration (days)**, **Duration (hours)**, **Work amount**, **Work groups** and **Workload (%)**. See [Gantt](https://support.sitedrive.com/en/kb/gantt) for all columns.

## Use the work package panel

The panel shows everything about one work package.

To open it:

- In Gantt, select a row and press Enter, or Alt+click the row.
- In Takt, double-click a work package, or right-click it and select **Show this in side panel**.

The breadcrumb under the name shows the area._

The panel has:

- **Header:** name, area, **Team** and **Owner**.
- **Status buttons:** **Not started**, **In progress**, **Completed**, and a **Progress** percentage. See [Tracking progress](https://support.sitedrive.com/en/kb/tracking-progress).
- **Blocker** and **Issue** buttons, and comments.
- **Prerequisites** and **Tasks** tabs (not shown for sum work packages).
- **Details** tab: **Area**, **Owner**, **Work section**, **Notes**, **Predecessors**, **Color**, and a **Timing** section with **Start date**, **End date**, **Duration (days)**, **Duration (hours)**, **Work amount**, **Work groups** and **Workload (%)**.

Owner and work section are set on the master, not on each instance.

## Work amount, work groups and workload

- **Work amount** is the effort in hours. By default Sitedrive calculates it from the duration and work groups. You can type your own value. It is used to weight progress and in the resource histogram.
- **Work groups** is how many crews work in parallel (0.1–10). Changing it recalculates the end date.
- **Workload (%)** is how efficiently the crew works. Changing it also recalculates the end date.

Work amount is read-only on sum work packages (it is the total of the work packages under them), when it comes from quantities, and when the work package has written tasks.

## Good to know

- Moving a work package does not move the work that depends on it. After a big change, check dependency violations. See [Dependencies](https://support.sitedrive.com/en/kb/dependencies).
- You can move work anywhere on the timeline. The schedule's initial start date only sets up the initial calendar view.
- In Takt, if dragging moves a whole phase instead of a single work package, the phase overlay is on. Turn **Phase** off and colour by **Teams** or **Status** to move single work packages.
- A sum's or master's dates always follow the work under it. You can't set them separately.
- **Work amount**, **Work groups** and **Workload (%)** are only shown to users who can see all schedule data.
- Undo with Ctrl/Cmd+Z. See [Undo, version history and baselines](https://support.sitedrive.com/en/kb/undo-version-history-and-baselines).
