# Takt

Read the Takt view: areas as rows, time across, work packages as blocks. Change detail level, colouring and display options.

Language: en
Canonical: https://support.sitedrive.com/en/kb/takt

The Takt view shows where work happens and when. Each row is an area of your building, time runs from left to right, and each block is a work package in one area. You can see trades moving floor by floor, spot gaps and clashes, and check that each area is ready for the next team.

The Takt view is also where you place work into locations with [Define areas](https://support.sitedrive.com/en/kb/define-areas). Planning in Takt is covered in [Takt planning](https://support.sitedrive.com/en/kb/takt-planning). This article explains how to read and set up the view.

## Before you start

- The Takt view needs a space model. Without one, the view asks you to add a space model first. See [Building the space model](https://support.sitedrive.com/en/kb/building-the-space-model).
- Everyone who can open the schedule can read the view. Editing work needs the **Schedule**, **Site** or **Account admin** right, or **Refine**/**Refine (ltd)** for work packages you own. Creating new Takt views needs **Schedule**, **Site** or **Account admin**.

## Read the Takt view

- **Rows** are the areas of the view's [location breakdown](https://support.sitedrive.com/en/kb/location-breakdowns). The label column on the left shows the hierarchy, for example Plot › Building 1 › Staircase A › Floor 1–5.
- **Columns** are calendar time. The blue vertical line is today.
- **Blocks** are work packages. A block's width is its duration in that area.
- **Holidays** appear as vertical grey bands with their names, for example _Christmas Day_.
- A row label like **Floor 1 +4 hidden** means there are more areas under that row than fit the current row height.

Before work has been placed in areas, phases can appear as dashed "(suggestion)" areas. Click one to place all the work in that phase. See [Define areas](https://support.sitedrive.com/en/kb/define-areas).

## Choose the detail level

Each Takt view is built on one location breakdown, which sets how detailed the rows are. When you first create a space model, you get two pinned Takt views:

- **Takt - Floor level** – one row per floor. Good for an overview of the whole building.
- **Takt - Zone level** – floors split into zones. Good for detailed short-term planning.

![The Takt - Zone level view, with more rows per floor and a finer grid](https://support.sitedrive.com/media/help/guide/takt/02-takt-zone-level.webp) _The same schedule at zone level, coloured by team._

To switch the breakdown of the current view, click the level name at the top of the label column (for example **Floor level** ▾) and pick another. Location breakdowns are shared within a schedule, so choosing one only changes what this view uses. To edit the breakdown itself, use the pencil icon next to it. See [Location breakdowns](https://support.sitedrive.com/en/kb/location-breakdowns).

### Create another Takt view

1. Click **+** (**View selection and management**).
2. Click **New view** → **Takt**.
3. Pick **Floor level**, **Zone level** or **All location breakdowns...**.

Takt views can't be duplicated. Create a new one this way instead.

## Colour the blocks

The toolbar has a colouring switch with three options:

- **Phase** – shades the schedule by phase. Click it to cycle through the modes:
    - **Off** – no phase shading.
    - **Auto** – phases are drawn when you are zoomed out far enough to read them (month columns).
    - **On** – phases are always drawn.
- **Teams** – each block uses its team's colour.
- **Status** – blocks show progress: green is completed, blue is in progress, orange is late, light blue is upcoming.

![The Takt view with the phase overlay turned on](https://support.sitedrive.com/media/help/guide/colouring-and-display/02-phase-overlay.webp)

If the schedule has phases and you have **Schedule** access or higher, the view opens with phase colouring. Otherwise it opens with **Teams**. See [Colouring and display options](https://support.sitedrive.com/en/kb/colouring-and-display).

## Select and act on work

- Click a block to select it. Ctrl/Cmd+click to select several. Shift+click to select a range.
- Double-click a block to open it in the side panel.
- Right-click a selection for actions such as **Define Areas...**, **Set status** ›, **Expand selection** › (**To subsequent packages** / **To previous packages**), **Show as sum work package**, copy and **Delete selected**.
- Alt/Option+click an empty cell to add a work package there.

See [Takt planning](https://support.sitedrive.com/en/kb/takt-planning) and [Keyboard shortcuts](https://support.sitedrive.com/en/kb/keyboard-shortcuts) for the full set.

## Adjust the display

Click the eye icon (**Select schedule visualization options**) in the toolbar. In Takt it offers:

Option

What it does

**Suggested phases**

Shows location suggestions for phases that aren't placed yet. On by default.

**Deadlines**

Shows deadlines on the timeline.

**Names as abbreviations**

Shortens work package names so more fit.

**Resource histogram**

Opens a histogram of resources under the timeline.

**Reverse location order**

Flips the rows top to bottom.

**Hide empty space rows**

Hides areas with no work.

**Hide completed packages**

Hides finished work.

**Holidays**

Shows holidays as bands.

**Timeline notes**

Shows timeline notes.

**Takt slots** ›

Shows takt time columns from a takt calendar.

**Row heights** ›

**Uniform package heights**, **Uniform row heights** or **Manually set row heights**.

## Move around

Pan and zoom work as in the Gantt: scroll or drag to pan, Ctrl/Cmd + scroll or pinch to zoom. Zooming over the row labels changes the row height. Use **Zoom level** for preset scales, and the **Map** control in the corner to step around.

## Good to know

- **Auto** phase colouring disappears when you zoom in past month columns. Set it to **On** to keep it.
- If a Schedule or Site user has locked colouring in [view settings](https://support.sitedrive.com/en/kb/sharing-views), you can't change it.
- Two Takt views can use the same location breakdown. Switching the breakdown changes only the view you are in.
- Some messages in the app call this view the _Location View_. It is the same view.
